Dental Hygienists
A Dental Hygienist is a vital part of all modern dentistry teams. They are more important than laser dentistry, implant dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. Hygienists have undergone a two or three year university training course to obtain their degree. They are specifically trained in the care, health and maintenance of your gums and teeth. However, they are not trained to diagnose dental problems or plan treatments. Therefore, your dentist will review your dental situation as necessary during your hygiene visits.
Practices that include Hygienists will have more available appointments to reduce the time you need to wait for treatment. Experience would also show that practices with Hygienists have patients who have healthier teeth and gums. This is because time can be specifically allocated to help patients with their individual cleaning requirements, dietary advice and appropriate hygiene maintenance program.
So, who should see the Hygienist? Everybody should! They can help parents with the care of young children, help teenagers manage their own teeth, help adults keep their teeth healthy and help older patients as they lose dexterity (which affects their ability to care adequately for their teeth). So don't wait, come in and see how our Hygienists are gentle, caring, knowledgeable and an integral part of modern dental care.
