Medicare Chronic Disease Dental Scheme
> As with most general dental practitioners, we are treating a number of patients under the Enhanced Primary Care Scheme. We happily accept patients who are eligible for the Medicare allied health and dental care initiative for chronically ill patients managed by their GP under an Enhanced Primary Care Plan. However, in most cases we do not bulk bill these patients.
To fulfil the Medicare requirements we must complete an initial consultation, provide a written quote for the patient and write a report outlining our treatment plan to the GP prior to commencing any treatment. The consultation is to be paid on the day. An estimated fee is $128.00 and the item numbers are 85012, 85022 x 2. From the examination, a thorough treatment plan will be outlined showing fees and item numbers. Patients can then take this costing to Medicare to assess their rebate and determine their out of pocket expenses prior to beginning any treatment.
It is important to understand that a referral from a GP for this program does not guarantee you are eligible. You must check the following website to ensure your eligibility: http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/provider/medicare/initiatives/teendental.jsp#N10035
Once you have accepted the treatment plan then we will require full treatment fees to be paid at each appointment. You will be issued an itemised receipt which you can then take to Medicare to claim back the rebate. It is our aim to make sure you know all the costs prior to treatment by following these steps outlined.
